La Vie Boheme...

Last night I discovered {with a little help} a little-known, local joint. I have lived here for over two years, frequenting the same restaurants and bars day in and day out, never venturing beyond the norm, the mainstream, never questioning, never looking beyond a few paths. This new place is a perfect mix of la vie boheme that rivals the Red Bar in Grayton Beach. Sluggo's is the name and bohemian it is: with indie bands, innovative decor, even serving vegan lunches and dinners.
The patrons were clad in an amazing mix of thrifted and funky finds. I saw guys in vests and plaid shirts and girls in gladiator sandals, bangles, flower head bands {I could have died when I left mine at home}....it was a Free People photo shoot if there ever was one. I died and went to fashion heaven.
But it was not just the clothes....it was the bands. There were three: Amos' Foot, Good Old War, and Johnny Apple Eyes. Good Old War was the epitome of a jam band, performing a floor dance, and playing a banjo and accordion. They sang nearly acapella to the faint strum of a guitar as they swayed and clapped to the music. The band hailed from Philly and their influences included Widespread and the Beatles; their sound was similar to the Avett's {who one day I will see live}. The final band Johnny Apple Eyes was local and fun. They played a harder mix of jams, but were nonetheless thoroughly enjoyable and I even danced a little jig in the spirit of all these delightful jams.
Now....I believe this calls for a little Rent:
To days of inspiration,
Playing hooky,
making something
Out of nothing,
The need
To express
To communicate,
To going against the grain,
Going insane,
Going mad
To loving tension,
no pension
To more than one dimension,
To starving for attention,
Hating convention,
hating pretension,
Not to mention of course,
Hating dear old mom and dadSo that's five miso soup,
Four seaweed salads
Three soy burger dinner,
Two tofu dog platters
And one pasta with meatless balls
And thirteen orders of fries
Is that it here?
Wine and beer!

To hand-crafted beers made in local breweries
To yoga, to yogurt, to rice and beans and cheese
Emotion, devotion,
to causing a commotion,
Creation, Vacation....

Now for the pics! Yes, being the dedicated blogger that I am I turned my camera on and snuck a few pics.

Mike's veggie faux-shi, vegan sushi with veggies and tofu or seitan. Amazingly, it tasted like sushi and was the perfect size served on a vintage raised wooden plank.Good Old War's floor jam--It's not a fight it's just a Good Old War. The only cover they sang was Cecilia {Simon & Garfunkel}. All of their songs were original and I cannot stop listening to them. Mike even bought the CD on his iPhone while we were there. Some shots of the ladies bathroom--even it was painted. The game room.A vintage Miller sign.A glass collage from inside. One of the many bohemian lights. When can we go back?
