Date with destiny.

This weekend is Mall Ball and I am still {sadly!} debating going. Indecision is one of my weakness {shhh! Don't tell!} and I keep going back and forth about whether or not to go. Yes, I know I would have a great time, but I don't want to walk in by myself. Sure I am fairly independent {for the most part} but I do like showing up to formal events with a date, and this happens to be one such event. I know I'll likely have to go to the PYP Annual Meeting sans 'plus one' as it's a month and a half out and I have not set a date and that is stressing me.

I may be lacking a guy for the evening but I do have a few dress options up my sleeve. One of which is this BCBG jumpsuit. It looks a little different {more dress like} and you don't even notice it is pants, and I'd leave off the shades, necklace and flats. My second option is this silver sequined BCBG number....I have a few more picks but did not take the time to search for a photo on the inet. Now all that's left is for me to "MAD" make a decision. To go or not to go.....I guess if I'm going by myself I should look cute so no one notices. I'll be with a bunch of couples.....I'm basically the eleventh wheel if there ever was one. Oh, what to do?

Peas, please....

I was in Nawlins' for New Years and was fairly certain {within a shadow of a doubt} that the restaurant we ate at would have a special New Years menu that included black-eyed peas. Good menu, but no luck. I could not believe that....in the Deep south on New Years and there were no peas or greens to be had.

I can remember for the longest time traipsing across the driveway to my grandmother's house for a New Year's Day lunch and always having peas for luck. As a youngster I ate what my mom placed in front of me for the most part, but the older I got the more I grew to hate peas and beans and anything near their resemblance. It came to a point that I ate twelve peas--one for luck for each of the twelve months, and if I thought it was going to be a particularly bad year I might throw in a couple more for good measure. Really it was more humorous than superstitious....last year I was in AL and mom cooked and if memory serves me correctly I had my brother be my proxy pea eater {is there really such a thing?!}.

But this year as I entered the supermarket yesterday I felt a strong desire to buy some peas for myself...but before I made it to the shelf I realized that I could not stomach the thought of a spoonful of peas staring at me, much less a whole jar, bag or can....there was no way in heck I was going to cook a mountain of peas for myself to eat one ounce. No thank you. But now as I type this I am craving the peas and greens....maybe I'll settle for spinach. I don't think I can feed the office-nites my left over pea concoction.

At this point you have to be thinking WHY PEAS? Well there are a myriad of pea tales one of which is that eating "poor" on the first day of the year brings good fortune and prosperity throughout the rest of the year. The greens represent paper money, and the black-eyed peas coins. Whatever the reason I need my peas. Good luck and best wishes for the new year!

Prolate spheroid....

John Heisman said, "It is a prolate spheroid in which the outer leather casing is drawn tightly over a somewhat smaller rubber tubing. Better to have died as a small boy than to fumble this football." I definitely had a fun, football-filled weekend spending New Years in the Crescent City and attending the Sugar Bowl the day after.Thankfully the Gators were victorious. After hearing the grunts of a million Bearcats I was thrilled to see them shutout quickly.Baby Bacchus sits on top of the Jax Brewery....you can kind of see him resting in the corner. No, we did not witness the baby plummeting to the ground but we did barely make it inside for New Years following a great dinner.A poor shot....sadly I didn't get to snap as many as I would have liked and didn't get all the angles I wanted. I'm prepping for KW though since it will just be a girl's trip I can take pictures irreverently just like I did in Chi. Sans photo-ops (or the lack thereof) it was a great trip and a great way to spend New Years.

Feathercast...

A little less than two weeks from now I will be on my way to NOLA for New Years.....already wondering what the weather will hold for the feather (fashion + weather) forecast. I know I need two things at least....something dressy for NYE and some orange and blue for the Sugar Bowl. I tried to scout out O+B yesterday...but no luck...looks like I may be wearing the same stuff from the SEC Champ game.....

Rajun' Cajun.....

A Jazz Fest poster hanging on the wall of a restaurant with a blue dog in the corner left me with one question....who was the artist. I could remember the fact that there was a restaurant and countless painting, but the artist's name escaped me.....after some googling the day after I have the answer-George Rodrigue is a Louisiana native who began painting outdoor family gatherings, but is more widely known for his creation of the Blue Dog series of paintings, featuring a blue-hued dog, attributed to his dog, Tiffany. The Blue Dog was made popular by Absolut Vodka in 1992, when Rodrigue was honored as an Absolut Vodka artist, joining famous artists such as Andy Warhol.George's wife has created a blog to chronicles the musings of an artist's wife, it includes numerous family photos of young George. I suggest you check it out to learn more about this blue dog man.

Nawlins'...........

Cute shop in NOLA! Loving the colorful pillow, the shabby blue table and the orange upholstered chairs.
