Feed Me, Seymour....

I admit I was a little leery when a friend asked if I wanted to see Little Shop of Horrors, but after reminding myself what it was about via a few choice Youtube bits....I was convinced I had to go.I found myself humming the tune and was immediately reminded of the game my brother and I had. {Okay, he will be embarrassed if he reads this, sorry, B!!} But as a child he always liked certain things whether it be volcanoes, fish, or carnivorous plants, and for that I am thankful; I probably learned more than I cared to at the time about Pompeii and cichlids....and got to play the Feed Me! game. The Feed Me! game came out around the time of the Little Shop of Horrors remake. The game featured an "Audrey II" plant that would have its mouth open when the game was being played. There were black balls and orange balls about the size of marbles. One color was lighter and one color was heavier. When it was your turn, you'd roll the dice and whatever color popped up is what you'd have to put on Audrey II's tongue. Be careful though! As the marbles add weight onto Audrey's tongue her mouth may just clamp down on the next player to stick their hand in! We had fun just sticking our hands in and pressing down on the tongue and making it bite us.
Demented maybe, fun most definitely yes. How many kids can say they had this game.....and the irony of it all is that it was purchased because it was a venus flytrap, not because my mom remembered the movie..... I wish I could find that game!

Ninth inning..

An awesome show you must check out is Nine by Design on Bravo. 2 designers, 6 kids and one baby could spell trouble for most, but not for Bob and Cortney Novogratz. These uber chic flippers flip the houses and raise their family in the chaos, but end up on their feet in the midst of this organized chaos. The husband-and-wife team created Sixx Design develops fantastic spaces out of unlikely places. The family, or more aptly put herd, has moved 10 or 12 times and credits their success to taking everything in stride and day by day. Their design style mixes antiques with modern pieces which I adore. It is obvious they they truly are doing what they love.

Let's make a deal...

Got to love 30 Rock, and after viewing a few episodes last night I was reminded of Liz Lemon's dealbreaker references....you know....if a guy has seven cell phones and won't give you the number to one--"that's a dealbreaker ladies." What about the guy that never gives you a schedule...hmmm that's a dealbreaker! I should make a list! But what I would really like to do is vent about my experience I was informed by the man of the hour what a dealbreaker for him was. Admittedly he only went on one date with someone because they were lactose intolerant (citing the numerous items that contain lactose), broke up with someone because they were a hemophiliac, broke up with someone because their brothers were gay...citing all cases as genetic issues that could be passed down to his children. Really, it was just one date! I need to start making my list I guess (yeah right!).....thank you, Liz Lemon.

Bad moon a rising...

The very first last time......wow! I cannot believe I attempted, and I do mean attempted to see New Moon at the midnight premier. A lofty goal it was. I had a meeting immediately following work and had avoided purchasing my ticket, but was convinced coerced into buying one.....and many moons later we arrived at the theater to find a thousand (well a lot) of fans lining the perimeter of the building. We joined V in line at 10:15 pm and waited and waited and waited. Teenagers sat on blankets gossiping, doing homework, studying for tests. There were pajamas and layers of clothes piled on everyone as we waited in the chilly night air. Anticipation was high as sides were taken for Edward or Jacob. A girl even got a little testy when I admitted to not having read the book. We waited two hours, the line began to move at Midnight as we were ushered into the theater in groups of twenty. Finally, we got in. I headed for the bathroom since I had been turned away earlier. The theater attendants were Twilight Nazis making you handover ids and cell phones for restroom use prior to the premiere. Finally relief! Thankfully my friends had found an empty theater. It was intense. Fans raced from room to room to find filled theaters. It was a mad house and every screen was showing New Moon.

Well to make a long story short we found seats at the top of the room and I snuggled into my corner...I was slowly but surely going to sleep and Claire was not far off. I kept checking the time...when would the movie start? 12:20 rolled around and there was still no premiere...not even one tiny commercial....I made the decision no one else in America made...I left New Moon. I realized that I probably would not leave the theater until 3:45 or 4:00am and was planning to wake up at 5:00 to get to work to ready for my presentation...I made a beeline for the door. Yes, I was the one person that left the theater. I missed seeing the movie but I gained a few precious hours of sleep and do not feel one bit bad about it. Sure I should have turned back before I got there, but I had to know....and now I'm happy I tried, maybe I won't do it again, and maybe I will....but definitely with a change of company.

Pigskin paradise...

Football season in the Deep South has officially kicked off. While my Alma mater has seen better days I am trying to maintain a positive attitude, but the way it's looking I may stop watching the game altogether.I'm secretly hoping that Rocky Top kicks some Gator booty in the Swamp next weekend and that we defeat our in state rivals....but as far as watching goes...I think I can find a better way to spend my Saturdays...
