Making a cameo....

I adore my vintage rings. They are, of course, family heirlooms, but for the longest time I have been craving a cocktail cameo and I found one. Circa 1950 and surrounded by seed pearls this cameo is perfection.

Wanna be a billionaire....

So freaking bad! Buy all of the things I never had.....I wanna be on the cover of Forbes magazine....maybe not a billion dollars but for 10 grand you could indulge at Gilt. How amazing is the Swarovski encrusted dress, but what I was really lusting after is the vintage Van Cleef and Arpels watch....where is the knockoff when you need one??

Going green....

In more ways than one this house goes green. Constructed of antique windows, corbels and ornate wood legs, this ornate structure can be used as a green house for plants, statues or a playhouse. Don't know about you, but I love it!

Life's a bike....

Life is like a bicyle. To keep your balance you must keep moving. ~Einstein. A friend of mine just purchased this fab vintage yellow Schwinn to scoot around DC in the fall....I don't know if I'm more jealous of the bike or his new town. Like I told him.....get ready to be snapped by The Sartorialist. The man likes bikes. And check this vintage advertisement. Don't worry, Mike, you'll be much cooler, but I can't resist a vintage ad. Happy biking~

Bringing sexy back.

I must say this-->spoiler alert. Yes, it's official I saw SATCTM2 on Friday evening and was initially concerned that upon entering the theater we were the only group in there......thankfully the space filled. The movie opened rather slowly and I had read that SJP was conceited and lack luster...that the chemistry between she and Big was off. Well it was, but only to portray marriage woes. I gasped as Big opened the vintage box...and I uttered the words "Vintage Rolex," then when Big gives Carrie her anniversary gift--a television, Carrie flips. Trust me, I understand the dangers of technology for gifts of the heart. Carrie is bored she will become an old married lady and her life will be boring, she wants to go out and get pushed in a crowd, She wants to be in the middle of the action and she cringes at the brown bag of take out. A few days later she leaves the house for two days returning to her old apartment to write and think. The story line develops and she and the girls head to Abu Dhabi to gallivant across the desert. Carrie finds Aiden, Charlotte finally cracks admitting that she is not super mom, Carrie kisses Aiden, Samantha is arrested, they sing karaoke, they lose the silver spoons they were handed(personal Maybachs) and return home humbly bringing lessons learned across the worls. Carrie realizes that she had spent half her life running around New York chasing Big and finally she had him sitting in front of her on her couch. She learned to appreciate and love what she had. In true Sex and the City form the story came full circle just like SJP's Zac Posen skirt.

But enough of that--the looks, the fashion is what I want more of. The ballerina look is back in the form of this Zac Posen taffeta number and Dior tee. My personal fave. The movie opens with SJP in this white Halston number and shiny Louboutins.More Halston.80s flashback when Carrie first moved to NYC. I heart the Converse.Love this looks as well. So fun. Capri jeans with Brian Atwood pumps, thrifted plaid and a sweat band. Classic Pat Field.Dress by Pat Field.Love the headdresses and hats in the flick. This top and tiara is what she sings karoake in....hey, don't we all need crowns?More Halston. The dress she met Aiden in and the Chanel glasses. The Louboutins worn with the John Galliano for Christian Dior dress. I died when she walked out in this dress. One of the best moments in the entire movie.....she got her sparkle back....

Louie, Louie....

Oh no. Me gotta go....get this bag! Channeling The Kingsmen via Animal House I am madly in love with this vintage Louis Vuitton bag. Circa 1920 and priced at $5K it is definitely beyond my reach but I am dreaming and I just found a new website: One Kings Lane. Basically Gilt for home. Yum!

Time of my life...

I am tempted on a daily basis by J. Crack's retro-cool Timex Camper watch but I found a cheapo Timex for less. To save or not to save?
Granted the faces are different, but if I am just looking for a rough-hewn watch to spice up shiny jewelry it might be the best $20 I've ever spent.
Think this look, but with Timex. Yes, please........

Old school cool....

Since when did The Nineties become retro? Browsing the Internet I found a story on retro candies....one of which was Crispy MM's......circa 1999. Goodness, I agree with the fact that the other retro candies are in fact retro....but '99 really. Good golly, I feel old!

Being framed....

Typically a very bad thing....I turned framing into enjoyment. If you do a little backtracking on my blog you will see the old layout of frames on my walls. Admittedly it was quite bland, and gosh darn it...a little juvenile. I had filled the frames with paper (sans mat and glass), sure it served its purpose but I needed more. Thanks to Gail (mom) who graciously collected frames for me over the past several months. On my quick trip home I collected six or seven (thankfully I drive an SUV). They had been sitting in the guest bedroom for over a week now but Sunday after taking down the moss I was bound and determined to redo the frames and start de-cluttering the room. Last night I pulled out my hammer, frame hooks and bar stool (makeshift ladder--mom, don't freak) and got to work.Did I plan the arrangement? No. Did I measure? No. Did I get out a level? No. Yep.....I am a hippie art child at heart. I adore the fluidity of arranging the frames and placing them in their respective locations. Just going with the flow so to speak....generally in life I hate going with the flow but with this I relax and let things naturally happen. It was definitely an anthro moment. I think of the joy the set designers must get when they finish an installation. Some people may call it clutter, but I call it art. This was my therapy for the evening. I was on such a tear I could not sleep until past midnight....I was thinking of all the possibilities I could accomplish. Oh, why are there so few hours in a day?I too revamped the mantle....should the branches on the far right stay or go?It's back to basics and a very vintage inspired place.....P.S. I need some small frames and have a final piece in my car waiting to be hung...I just need the right hook ;) You will see tomorrow....oh you will see.

Winner's circle.

Loving these award ribbons. Why not go out on a limb and pin one on like a broach? I can SO see these in the next J.Crew logbook.....maybe the full-on ribbon is a little much so I'll go with the round portion with a vintage gold pin. If you don't feel like crafting your own check out The Shiny Squirrel for these fine dandies crafted by Jessica Grindstaff and Leilani Arita.

Here's lookin' at you kid.....

Friday crave...new sunnies for fall. I have resisted the aviator trend long enough {partially because I cannot find the right shape}, but I may stumbled upon a perfect pair. My Mom has been thumbing through vintage styles and this gave me the inspiration to do a little vintage searching on my own. Hooray! I found the vintage Raybans. I love them...very classic.

Mini meltdown...

After guiltily watching too many hours of The Zoe Project, I am dying to channel Zoe and her love for the 70s {even though I'm not sure if it's because she likes vintage or that it reminds her of her young days--Rach is 37}. Either way I am craving the vintage boho vibe.Miniskirts, fringe, bell bottoms, platforms, plaid, tunics, big glasses, and caftans grew from trees, but for current interpretation the pieces need to be tempered. I know that I won't be caught dead in the shoes below.
Lucky for us, the 2009 versions abandon the cheap polyester . You can easily obtain an updated look by throwing on boho staples like peasant blouses, drawstring dresses, faded prints, jumpsuits, maxis, and a healthy amount of suede. And when dressing for past decades don't leave the denim behind. Pair bell bottoms and updated flares with gauzy tops and earthy, cork platforms.Still not sure what to wear? Pop in Dazed and Confused or listen to this. Hmmm.....a Sunday viewing perhaps?
