My country tis of thee...

America....the spacious skys......J.Crew the spacious pages. I got my new catalog in the mail today and it seems as though they made a pledge to Barack with the rest of the nation. Don't get me wrong--I love J.Crew! But was this just another marketing opportunity to tug at the nation's heartstrings and pocketbooks (yes, I used the term pocketbooks!). Retailers are facing struggles with a tight economy and even tighter purse strings and are tailoring advertising to promote items under $100, under $50, etcetera. J.Crew's latest catalogs have featured Paris and Italy...but now coincidentally: America, even adding Lauren Hutton to their model repertoire.

Stores change music to change shopping habits....so it would stand to reason with these times-a-changing there was but one thing to do. Change, change marketing, change models, change the message. Is J.Crew the clothing of America? Good marketing, huh? Kudos to whoever struck accord with Michelle; the company must definitely be reaping the financial rewards with the free press from Michelle Obama's penchant for the brand. New Crew-cutts stores are popping up everywhere so that children can dress like the first kids.....

Ahh well, there's nothing left to do but peruse the pages.....here's to marketing!
