Making fun...

Sure we may all agree that "sticks and stones can break your bones, but words can never hurt you." But how true is this and does who you are affect what you can and cannot say. Obama negligently uttered the words,"it's like the Special Olympics." I am certain people across America both cringed and laughed--I was cringing this morning as I watched CNN before work. How can you make light of that situation? What example is he setting for the country or even his daughters? George W. Bush mispronounced things, Nixon had Watergate, Cheney shot people, Clinton had relations, and the list goes on. The real question is, how high a standard do we hold the leaders of our country? Bush is still being made fun of and Clinton's wife is in charge....Obama can somehow have a carte blanche to pick basketball brackets, make fun of the handicapped, go on late night TV, have an MTV themed election night, and more. Is Obama the pop culture president and should he be? Is the presidency a laughing matter? I don't think so. While it is good to be current and appeal to all voters, Obama may have taken this too far....if you start laughing at yourself, people may just start laughing at you.
