Up in smoke...

This morning as the rest of the free world lay sound asleep in their beds at 6:50 am I was readying myself to walk out the door and be off to work when my ears were greeted with a horrible ringing, buzzing, pounding, shrieking ALARM! A fire alarm, and this noise bear no resemblance to the buzz of a smoke detector mind you. Everyone should hear this at least once in their life! I grabbed my phone and called my mom! I ran frantically down my hall making sure I had set nothing on fire, and there was no smoke in my apartment, no electrical equipment problems, nothing, a ran from my apartment still on the phone with my mom. I hung up as all three of my neighbors were out wanting to know what happened. They had no fire in their apartments either, but they did have that horrid ringing! Four apartments, four alarms, no fire...Was this a four alarm fire?My neighbor below and I proceeded to call 911 and waited. I did remain cool, calm, and collected because I knew this call would be recorded for posterity's sake. I sat in my car and dialed the office and left a message there as well. I waited some more. Fifteen minutes later the engine arrived and the fire fighters roamed around the building seeking the fire and some time they could not find anything......Was it a test? Was it a false alarm? What went up in smoke? Where was the fire?

I guess all it takes to meet all your neighbors and exchange numbers is a good fire alarm. Where there's smoke, there's fire, and where there is a fire alarm there is smoke.
