No, I am not referring to the Lit’l Smokies we make pigs-n-a-blanket out of. I am referring to my own little smoky creation. I decided to make meringues last night and had whipped the egg whites and added all the appropriate ingredients. I proceeded to spoon the meringue batter onto the cookie sheets. I threw the sheets into the oven, set the temperature and time, cleaned up and proceeded to you guess it-watch TV. I had not watched 10 minutes, when I smelled burning again!! It had to be the over. I opened it and saw my meringues perfectly secure baking away as they should. Back to the TV, but I smelled it again. I bent over this time and looked inside the oven, and found it. I had accidentally touched the top coil with meringue batter and it was smoking away. Talk about nearly making s’mores. I removed the burning batter and let the meringues continue to back.Be careful when dealing with high temperatures and when you enter and leave the oven with a dish. Check around.
