I am still getting a lot of flack about my penchant for the horns I hung in my home ( a lot of alliteration there, huh?) Well, I did some research to further support my decision to display the dead (horns, that is). The below design is by Thom Felicia (Queer Eye host). I even want a hide of some form or fashion to go into my home...still waiting on those wood floors! Check this out. An entire bucket of horns, what I would not to to get my hands on some of these! Maybe it has something to do with wildlife (the anti-beach look), maybe a natural asthetic (I drive a gas-guzzler and work for a utility company-my decor is anything but modern), or maybe just maybe it has something to do with Christmas, reindeer, that seems the likeliest of all reasons, but I really think that it's just a phase and soon will pass. We'll see though.
My mom came to visit last week and finally got to see the horn in real lie as compared to texted pictures or the blog photos. She at first was reluctant, but I think she may be warming up to the idea. I have had mixed feelings over the horns, roughly 50/50 and it is a love/hate relationship. Some friends tell me to without a doubt keep it and others freak out! I really think they are a neutral colour and blend into the wall paint and essentially become an architectural detail. Who cares really, they make me happy!
Please don't ask how it was hung though. I wired the skull through the rear of the head so it could be hung on framing hooks. I nimbly balanced myself on a bar stool so I could reach the 10' height. I couldn't pick someplace reachable now could I? I nailed carefully trying not to fall and finally the hooks were hung. I then lifted the skull up and it is there to stay a while. So many horns, so little time. Maybe, just maybe too many.....poor deer! I am telling myself all the horns were shed naturally! Side note, Ace Venture, When Nature Calls was on the tube tonight as I was scrolling and I quote "This is a room of death." I certainly hope that's not what my few horns portray.
