So now when you steal thunder or have yours taken, you can think about Dennis and his thunderous creation. And yes, that is a photo of lighting....thunder is a noise....and I have yet to master including a sound bit in my blogging.

Don't steal my thunder.....
With all the lighting and thunder speak, and the fact that a little birdy told me, I decided to research why it is that our so-called thunder can be stolen. Well it all got started with English playwright and critic, John Dennis, when he developed a new way to simulate the sound of thunder on stage. He created this thunder by using troughs of wood with stops in them, the original method employed was using large mustard bowls. The thunder was a success, but the play--a flop. the play was cancelled shortly thereafter, but when the stage manager began running Macbeth Dennis happened to be in the audience. When it thundered in the play Dennis realized they were using his methods and immediately proclaimed, "That's my thunder, by God! The villains will not play my play but they steal my thunder."
