In hot water.....

As my mom kindly put it, “Not everything goes into the dishwasher.” I tend to have a habit of throwing everything into the dishwasher other than my antique cookie press (I use it for cheese straws). Well, one night I threw my 20-some odd ounce water bottle into the dishwasher. I turned on the TV and was sitting on my couch and kept smelling something burning or over heating. “What was it,” I thought to myself. I had not cooked anything, I was not washing clothes, the only appliance that was on was the dishwasher and it was on the drying cycle. I opened it and looked inside….there was nothing. I sat down again and kept smelling that heated plastic smell. I opened the dishwasher again and found the culprit! The rubber straw that goes with the bottle had become loosened from the lid and was in the base of the dishwasher melted! I pulled out the melted straw remains.
Before you throw something in the dishwasher make certain it is in fact washable and can withstand the heat. If I had not caught this quickly, I could have had real problems.
