Fat Tuesday.....

It is time for one final day of debauchery before Ash Wednesday and in the spirit of all things Mardi Gras I wore a token of spirit (and by spirit I mean alcohol). I have two necklaces constructed of a vintage sterling silver decanter label, one part cherry and another part gin. These labels are meant to hand around the neck of a decanter to identify the liquor. Some include gin, whiskey, port, vino, vodka, brandy and sherry. I first stumbled upon these creations at Anthropologie a few years back, but figured if I found a label I could easily have a jeweler restring it on a necklace chain. and that is very well what I did, I began scouring antique stores. I found a Vodka and Sherry first, but opted to go for the less obtrusive Sherry as I was not sure how I'd feel about having a blaring Vodka label around my neck. After wearing it for quite sometime I wanted another...and this time I chose Gin. I may have found this one at an antique store or on eBay. Today I am wearing Gin since it is probably a better Mardi Gras mixer.

Not having a photo of the one I am currently wearing I found this photo online of another. Mine is a more solid piece, but I do love how this one is carefully display on a book around a tongue-in-cheek caption....Can we interpret this to mean Gin-the water of life? You can view more here.
Forget shaken or stirred.....make jewelry.........
